'We should not panic’: Ramaphosa says; SA remains on Level 1

President Cyril Ramaphosa has addressed the nation amid a spike in Covid-19 cases and concern over a new variant, dubbed Omicron, in the country.

Among the highlights of speech are that:

* SA will remain on Level 1. This may change as the President says the situation will be closely monitored on a daily basis.

* We still have too many unvaccinated people. Ramaphosa has urged those eligible for vaccination to go and get the jab. “This is the time for us to go and get vaccinated,” he urged.

* The COVID-19 positivity rate has increased dramatically in the past week. Gauteng is currently worst affected.

* The 4th wave is expected from early December

* Vaccination may become mandatory for certain activities. A task team has been tasked with investigating this.

* Mask wearing in public remains mandatory.

* The President urged South Africans to ensure they mingle where there is adequate fresh air | ventilation.

* Ramaphosa has urged countries which have imposed travel bans on southern African countries to reconsider these bans urgently.
