Yesterday on VOC we heard from the Iraqi ambassador Dr Hishaam Al Alawi that South African citizens have died in Syria while fighting as ISIS recruits, as reported in the Sunday Independent at the weekend. DIRCO and the State Security department say they are not aware of any South Africans recruited to ISIS. Right now, it’s all speculation without any real evidence, which makes it difficult for news consumers to swallow.
