CR7's European downfall was due to him not getting game time under United boss Eric ten Hag, as the dutchman stood up to CR7. Ronaldo's off-field antics were frowned upon and the tantrums that he threw were unacceptable. Since both Manchester United and CR7 mutually agreed to terminate his contract, the 37-year-old has put pen to paper and signed for Saudi Arabian outfit, Al Nassr. Ronaldo's contract sees him pull in close to £170 million a season, making him the highest-paid footballer in history.

In December, Lionel Messi helped Argentina win its first world cup since 1986. The little Magician was instrumental in La Albiceleste's win. With the help of a fantastic team and goalkeeping heroics by Emiliano Martínez, Messi was able to finally secure a trophy he has been dreaming of for years.
