The vision of the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Social Development is to enhance the quality of life through an integrated system of social development services. Its mission is to be committed to the promotion of development social welfare services and community development for the people of KwaZulu-Natal in partnership with stakeholders, and to transform our society by building conscious and capable citizens through the provision of integrated social development services.
The Department seeks to embody the Batho Pele principles in its efforts to ensure that its service provision is done in humane ways and results in positive and sustainable outcomes for the citizens of KwaZulu-Natal. Its Service Delivery Improvement Plan entails all the principles of Batho Pele and will be implemented over the next five years.
The Department's constitutional mandate rests on the basic tenets of the Constitution as embodied in Chapter 2: the Bill of Rights emphasises equality, human dignity, freedom and security of the person, health care, food, water and social security, and the rights of the child.
