Dan was unlucky to be a great Number Nine in the same era as Joost Van Der Westhuizen, Werner Swanepoel and several others. Nevertheless, Dan left his mark on Bok rugby by fulfilling a childhood dream and earning a Test cap against England at Twickenham. Before that Van Zyl toured several times with the Springboks playing an integral role in the midweek team and evening captaining the dirt trackers!
