Unappreciated Achiever: Springbok Coach Heyneke Meyer’s Story

Loading player...
After missing out on the Springbok coaching job in 2008, Heyneke Meyer fulfilled a lifelong ambition of becoming the Bok boss four years later. In this fascinating discussion Meyer opens up about what really happened during an exciting period in South African rugby. Heyneke led the Springboks to consecutive unbeaten end-of-year tours – something not achieved since 1996/97 and not again since. Meyer also led the Boks to record wins over Argentina and Australia but fell short against an all-powerful All Blacks side. In this video he explains why that was the case. Unfortunately, Heyneke also came under pressure for a first-ever defeat to Japan but here he sheds light on what really happened behind the scenes. Perhaps in years to come he will be appreciated for overseeing a relatively successful period in Bok rugby. And maybe this video can go some way towards helping give Meyer the credit he deserves. Buckle up for an exhilarating ride!
