Critics ignore 'incredible utility' of Google, YouTube & Facebook

Google and Youtube have brought incredible utility to billions of people for free, and critics seeking to break up tech giants like their parent Alphabet should think twice whether that would solve any of the problems all companies face with data-led models. So argues Polar Capital's Ben Rogoff, co-manager of Polar Capital’s Global Technology and AI funds.

Rogoff also resists notions that advertising boycotts by major brands would make a meaningful difference to Facebook. Among other insights Rogoff explains why virtual reality could revolutionise university education. Why we should not hold our breath for driverless cars. And why Ocado is one of the UK's only 'genuinely world class' tech companies.

His funds have participated in the success of the tech sector precipitated by lockdown. But, he argues, a rising tide does not lift all boats, this has not been a free pass for all tech companies. And another insight: fund managers play video games too.
