Welcome to the first episode of our adventure through the breathtaking NE Cape Grasslands! In this episode, we begin our journey across the Eastern Cape Highlands, tackling some of South Africa’s most rugged and scenic mountain passes on BMW GS Adventure motorcycles. Joining me are seasoned adventure riders Hermann Kistner and Joe Ludemann, and I’m tagging along in my trusty Toyota 4x4.
Covering the first two days of our tour, we take on epic routes like the challenging Pitseng Pass and the iconic Naude’s Nek Pass—both offering dramatic landscapes and thrilling rides. We also visit Tiffindell, the country’s premier alpine resort, and tackle part of the Ben 10 Challenge, a popular adventure route for off-road enthusiasts. As the day comes to an end, we traverse the remote and awe-inspiring Otto du Plessis Pass, a lesser-known gem.
