IN CONVERSATION WITH Isaac Mangena (city power Spokesperson)

City Power has suspended all operations in parts of Alexandra following a disturbing incident where technicians were held hostage during a routine meter installation.
According to the utility, the team was ambushed on Monday while working in the Vezinyawo section of Alexandra. Three City Power vehicles were hijacked during the incident, and the keys to the vehicles were reportedly stolen by one of the individuals involved. The vehicles later had to be towed from the scene.
In response to the safety threat, City Power has withdrawn its staff from the area and announced it will not return until the safety of its employees is assured.
“We will only resume work if there’s a clear change in the attitude of the residents in that area,” said City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena. “If and when that happens, we’ll be able to continue with meter installations, restore power, and allow customers to begin purchasing electricity again.”
City Power emphasized that community cooperation and the protection of essential workers are critical to maintaining and restoring services.
