In conversation with Xolani Fihla - JMPD Partners with Diageo and Coca-Cola to Curb Drunk Driving Ahead of Easter

Loading player...
In a major step toward reducing road fatalities during the
Easter holiday season, the Johannesburg Metropolitan
Police Department (JMPD) has partnered with Diageo
Southern Africa and Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa.
The partnership, anchored by a robust road safety
campaign launched at Grasmere Toll Plaza, focuses on
educating motorists and pedestrians about responsible
behaviour and the dangers of drinking and driving.
Through heightened enforcement, increased roadblocks,
and interactive digital tools like Diageo’s “Sober vs Drink
Driving” experience, the initiative aims to create a safer
travel environment across Johannesburg.
The campaign also forms part of Coca-Cola’s “Respect the
Road” initiative, reinforcing its ZERO IS POSSIBLE
commitment to road safety. With peak travel expected, the
JMPD emphasizes that driver fatigue, speeding, and
alcohol consumption remain key contributors to road
accidents. This multi-stakeholder approach underscores a
unified message: road safety is a collective responsibility.
The JMPD, Diageo, and Coca-Cola call on all road users
to obey traffic laws and make responsible choices to
ensure a safe and incident-free Easter holiday for all.
