The recent discovery of 14-year-old Likhona Fose’s mutilated body in Roodepoort has sent shockwaves across South Africa, highlighting the country’s deepening crisis of violence against women and children. Her brutal killing adds to the growing number of femicide and child murder cases that have gripped the nation with fear and anger.
The Tshegofatso Pule Foundation, which advocates for victims of gender-based violence, has condemned the killing and called for urgent action. “We are devastated. Likhona’s death is not just another number — it’s a painful reminder that our girls are not safe, not even in their own communities,” said the foundation's spokesperson, Botlhale Modisane.
South Africa continues to experience alarmingly high rates of gender-based violence, with women and children being the most vulnerable. Despite numerous campaigns and promises from authorities, families across the country continue to mourn lives lost to senseless brutality.
The Tshegofatso Pule Foundation urged government, law enforcement, and civil society to intensify efforts to combat the scourge and called for justice for Likhona and all other victims. “We must act now — we cannot allow another child to die this way,” said Modisane
