The African Transformation Movement (ATM) stands resolutely against the heinous corruption unveiled in the recent interim report by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) regarding the Tembisa Hospital scandal, where a staggering R2 billion has been siphoned off from funds meant for essential healthcare services. This egregious betrayal not only highlights the rampant corruption that has taken root within our public institutions but also vividly illustrates the dire consequences of mismanagement and greed that directly affect the most vulnerable members of our society.
The ATM condemns in the strongest terms the coordinated activities of the identified criminal syndicates and the complicity of certain officials in the Gauteng Department of Health and Tembisa Hospital. The details emerging from the investigation reveal a shocking network of fraud, collusion, and money laundering that undermines public trust and erodes the integrity of our healthcare system. The fact that funds earmarked for the well-being of our citizens were instead funnelled into luxury assets and personal enrichment is a moral outrage that cannot be tolerated.
We call for immediate and decisive action to hold all those implicated accountable. This includes not only the high-ranking officials who orchestrated this corruption but also the businesses that profited from these illicit activities. The ATM demands a thorough investigation that ensures justice is served, and that all stolen funds are recovered to restore integrity to our healthcare system.
