The Soweto community was left reeling after the body of 39-year-old Lebohang
Sikwane was discovered inside a rubbish bin near Masekhene Higher Primary
School in Meadowlands on Tuesday, 11 November 2025.
According to witnesses, bloodstains led them and police to a nearby house,
where 38-year-old Michael Moremi was arrested on suspicion of murdering
Sikwane. Authorities allege that Moremi killed Sikwane and used a refuse bin to
move her body closer to the schoolyard.
Moremi made a brief appearance at the Orlando Magistrate’s Court on 12
November, with the case postponed to Wednesday to allow him to secure legal
representation.
Sikwane’s body reportedly bore fresh wounds on her forehead, and despite her
battered appearance, she was identified by a local resident. She leaves behind
three children.
The incident has sparked outrage among Meadowlands residents, who
gathered outside the court demanding justice for Sikwane. Bohlale Modisane,
spokesperson for the Tshegofatso Pule Foundation, joined the crowd, urging
the court to impose a harsh sentence on the accused.
The discovery has deeply affected the Zone 3 community, highlighting ongoing
concerns over safety and violent crime in the area. Police continue to
investigate the circumstances surrounding Sikwane’s death.
