Townsend Park is back on the agenda and this time the stakes are higher.
After more than a decade of delays, reversals and political pressure, KwaDukuza Municipality has restarted the entire process to sell a section of the park to the Zululand Islamic Society for a proposed mosque. Treasury and Cogta advised the restart after identifying legal defects in earlier rounds, while the ANC Youth League has publicly accused the municipality of violating religious rights.

In this episode, Penny speaks to Warwick Chapman, chair of the KwaDukuza Residents Forum (KDRF) to unpack what this battle is really about:
transparency, public land, political pressure, election-year manoeuvring and a community trying to protect one of Ballito’s last green spaces.

We break down the facts, the politics and the fault-lines and what residents need to know.
