“Ons gaan nêrens nie.” Só sê Henry Jacobs, stigter van die CYFS-organisasie in Wellington, nadat die Drakenstein-munisipaliteit dié organisasie tot einde November gegee het om die geskiedkundige Safmarine-saal in Wellington te ontruim.

Die munisipaliteit sou die eiendom in Van Wyksvlei verlede jaar sloop maar Jacobs het toe ingespring en ‘n ooreenkoms met hulle aangegaan vir die huur van die gebou. Die voorwaarde was dat hy dan self verantwoordelik vir die herstelwerk sou wees.

Jacobs het sedert verlede jaar bykans R100 000 uit sy eie sak spandeer om die gebou op te knap en weer veilig te verklaar. Sedertdien word meer as 46 programme en regeringsdienste by dié saal deur CYFS moontlik gemaak.

Die munisipaliteit se skielike aankondiging dat die organisasie wat die gebou herstel het nou moet ontruim, het inwoners aan die gons.
