As South Africa continued in its efforts to stave off the effects of one severe weather event after another, a masterplan for saving lives and property was unveiled in Cape Town recently. As it turned out, the country was the first within the G20 fold to complete and launch its Early Warnings for All Roadmap. But the roadmap will cost a staggering R1 billion to implement. Head of Disaster Risk Reduction at the South African Weather Service, Mr Rudzani Malala tells us what the cost will be if we do not manage to fund and execute the roadmap.
