This week on The Ripple, we focused on local resident Lisa Hatfield’s volunteer led reading programme, which operates from the Nkobongo Resource Centre in Nkobongo, Shakaskraal.

Lisa, a retired teacher, works with a small group of volunteers to support vulnerable children through weekly reading sessions. The programme does not require teaching experience. It depends on people who are willing to give a little time each week to sit with a child and help build confidence through reading.

The centre also has a small computer hub with Wi-Fi, where students can receive assistance with basic computer skills, schoolwork and compiling CVs. However, of the ten donated computers available, only two are currently working.

If you have a spare working computer or are able to volunteer a few hours a week to assist with the reading programme, please contact the Nkobongo Resource Centre on 078 735 1668 and ask to speak to Zama. Computers can also be dropped off at the radio station.

You can also WhatsApp the radio on 071 185 1471 if you would like to be connected directly with Lisa.

If you missed the show, The Ripple airs every Monday at 7:30am on 88FM during the Morning Show with Mike and Penny.

Each week, The Ripple aims to highlight where good is already happening in our communities. The segment is built on a simple belief: when good is shared, it can be felt. And when it is felt, it can inspire others. Sometimes inspiration begins with something small. One story, one act, one ripple at a time.
