Language as a Site of Struggle
Loading player...
Language as a Site of Struggle is a podcast episode that explores the history of language oppression in South Africa and how language continues to be a barrier, more so in institutions of higher learning. During Apartheid, languages such as English and Afrikaans were used as a control tool to segregate the country and marginalise the black majority. Today, in a democracy, language prejudice still continues, especially in academic spaces. This episode aims to answer one question: how does language shape confidence, identity and belonging in education?
