: Ministry Burnout and Caring for God's Workers: Lessons from 1 Kings 19
In this moving message for "Fantastic Friday," with Rocky Stevenson Pastor of Benoni Bible Church we explore the vital, often overlooked mission of caring for God's exhausted workers. While the church rightly celebrates the launch of new ministries, we frequently forget that pastors, missionaries, and ministry leaders are made of clay—highly susceptible to profound spiritual and physical exhaustion.
Drawing from the life of Elijah in 1 Kings | 19:4–8, we see how God beautifully meets pastoral burnout not with a harsh rebuke, but with a gentle provision of food and rest. We also look to Epaphroditus in Philippians | 2:25–30, a dedicated worker who fell dangerously sick for the sake of the Gospel, prompting the Apostle Paul to command the local church to hold such sacrificial servants in high regard. Finally, we discover through 1 Thessalonians | 4:11–12 and 1 Peter | 2:12 how ordinary believers, living quiet lives of everyday integrity, provide the essential structural and financial support that sustains frontline Christian workers.
Caring for God's workers is not a optional side project of missions; it is the absolute lifeblood of it. If you are currently sitting under the broom tree of exhaustion, or if you want to learn how to better sustain those who serve on the spiritual front lines, we invite you to listen to this message and reflect on how your community can bake the bread and carry the water for those who carry the Gospel.
