As they say: “Die poppe dans” as the Political Killings Task Team this week moved in on alleged fraudsters preying on the beleaguered Emfuleni Local Municipality in the Vaal. Alleged widespread corruption in council, as exposed by whistleblower Martha Rantsofu before her assassination in March, is finally playing out in the courts, with several accused hauled before the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates’ Court for charges ranging from fraud to theft to money laundering. Meanwhile, Deputy president Paul Mashatile’s son-in-law, Nceba Nonkwelo, pays back a Gauteng Partnership Fund; we may just never know how much. We also bring you details on Canal Plus’ apparent leaked plans to unbundle DSTV Premium into two packages for pay TV subscribers. Plus, three other stories you may’ve missed in the week thus far – you’re tuned in to News24’s Unread this Sunday with your host, broadcast journalist Graeme Raubenheimer. Expect fresh shows twice a week. This show has been carefully produced, presented and edited by Raubenheimer, News24 visual director Wynand Louw, and video journalists Luke Daniel, Storm Simpson and Chelsea Ogilvie.
