Finance and politics inextricably intertwined in South Africa

After Futuregrowth's decision - late last year - not to lend to some of SA's largest SOEs without having deeper sight of, and comfort around, their governance, decision-making and independence - the company's CIO: Andrew Canter said: "I'm an asset management guy. I really have no place getting involved in politics - this was never our intention but some interpreted it that way. We had no idea of the unanticipated and unintended consequences.
