
Mantashe to challenge black ownership ruling

The third iteration of the Mining Charter has hit a snag. Mineral Resources Minister, Gwede Mantashe has sought leave to appeal the High Court ruling on the once empowered always empowered principle which stated that the Mining Charter didn't require producers to top up black-shareholding levels if they previously met the minimum 26% requirement. Earlier this month the Minister indicated that the charter was about 80% complete and on track to be gazetted in June, what does this new development mean for that deadline and President Ramaphosa's hunt for R1.2 trillion worth of investment into the country?
