A group of anguished umrah pilgrims have opened a civil case against Shahied Stakala, the director of the Gaironiesa Foundation. Stakala was arrested late on Monday afternoon on charges of fraud and is being held in custody at the Lentegeur police station. He is accused of not delivering on an agreement to provide subsidised umrah packages to a number of pilgrims. VOC reporter Ra’eesah Isaacs went to Lentegeur police station to get the story. Then after the break, we will hear from Lamy Travel SA, the operator which also accused Stakala of not paying for logistical services for the aggrieved pilgrims.
