As we approach World No Tobacco Day on the 31st of May, we look at the implications of direct and secondary smoking. According to the South African National Halaal (SANHA) authority about 6 million people would have died as a result of smoking since last year. Of these, 60 000 people would have died due to complications after being subjected to secondary smoke inhalation. And even though smoking is preventable, there are more human losses suffered than during world wars, nuclear bombs or from natural disasters and diseases.
