Episode 34 Hema Vallabh #WisdomPersonified conversations with Dudu Msomi

Hema Vallabh is the co-Founder and CEO of the social enterprise, WomHub, which is a boutique incubator, accelerator and co-working hub for female founders in STEM (Stem, Technology, Engineering and Manufacturing).

From an insecure teenager sitting at the back of the classroom in a no frills and no fusses government school in Lenasia, Hema's exposure to a world outside of the bubble of her Indian community has unleashed a powerhouse who has a passion to build organisations that create a lasting impact. Her mum is her biggest inspiration and her father, her biggest fan.

Hema has a BSc Engineering (Chemical)(Hons) and MSc Engineering (Catalysis) from UCT and MBA from Saïd Business School, Oxford University. Though she says she was not brought up to dream, have drive and want to be successful, the pain, anger and frustration of seeing gender discrimination, particularly in engineering, but also across STEM fields has driven her to use her ambitious energy to combat it.

Hema also shared her personal pain and resultant growth and wisdom following her divorce. What can make a woman attractive is also what can be the source of discontent in the life partners we choose. An issue worth reflecting on as women and men in a society that is supposed to be built on a foundation of equity, equality, non-sexism and human dignity.
