Marisa Bester, portfolio manager in STANLIB Infrastructure Investments, says there is a great need for responsible private sector investment in maintaining and upgrading SA’s power, communications and water infrastructure. An estimated R300-400 billion of additional investment is needed every year to lift SA to the benchmark for this size of the economy. Responsible investment means applying ESG principles so that decisions are aligned with society’s goals and have a positive and measurable impact on communities.
