Nursing union DENOSA has raised alarm over poor hygiene conditions at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, blaming an ongoing linen shortage allegedly caused by malfunctioning laundry equipment. Healthcare workers say the pile-up of soiled linen in corridors and units has become a daily sight, compromising cleanliness and patient care. The Gauteng Health Department says it has appointed a service provider to repair the laundry equipment at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. It say in the interim, hospital linens are being laundered at Dunswart provincial laundry on a daily basis to ensure a consistent supply of clean linen to patients. According to the department 106 staff members have been dispatched to the laundry to boost the operation during the day and night shift. Phemelo speaks to Denosa Joburg Regional Chairperson, Yandisa Zungula and DA Gauteng Shadow MEC for Health, Jack Bloom
