The Democratic Alliance is taking a sledgehammer to B-BBEE. The party has officially gazetted its Public Procurement Amendment Bill for public comment - a bold piece of legislation that would eliminate race-based criteria in state tenders. If passed, the Bill would toss out the B-BBEE scorecard and shift towards a “needs-based,” outcome-focused empowerment model. The DA’s Head of Policy, Mathew Cuthbert, says B-BBEE has failed millions while enriching only a connected few.
