Call for vigilance as rains batter Gauteng

The Gauteng Provincial Government is urging residents to stay alert as relentless rain sweeps across the province. This comes after the South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a Level 9 warning for 16 November, signalling a medium likelihood of disruptive downpours that could trigger widespread flooding, dangerous fast-flowing streams and damage to homes, roads and essential infrastructure. Emergency services and the Provincial Disaster Management Centre are now on full standby, with contingency plans activated as forecasters warn of hail, strong winds, lightning and severe thunderstorms in vulnerable areas. Authorities are calling on residents to remain indoors where possible and to prioritise safety. Phemelo speaks to Gauteng Government Spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga.
