‘Cat’ Matlala asks to delay Parliament appearance amid corruption probe

Attempted-murder accused Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala is seeking to postpone his much-anticipated appearance before Parliament’s ad hoc committee probing police corruption. In a letter seen by EWN, Matlala’s lawyers say he is “not prepared” to give evidence this week and needs additional time to consult. Matlala is scheduled to appear at Kgosi Mampuru prison, where he is currently incarcerated. His legal team has warned that if they do not receive written confirmation of a postponement from committee chair Soviet Lekganyane by 3pm on Tuesday, they will file an urgent court application to halt the proceedings. Phemelo gets analysis from legal expert Mpumelelo Zikalala on the implications and what this means for the inquiry.
