The City of Ekurhuleni has suspended its Head of Legal Services and Risk, Advocate Kemi Behari, and Head of Human Resources, Linda Qxasheka, as part of what it describes as an institutional renewal programme. Executive Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza said both officials have been served with charge sheets and will appear before the City’s Disciplinary Committee. The municipality says the process will follow labour laws and internal policies. The move also draws renewed attention to Behari’s testimony at the Madlanga Commission, where he alleged political interference in a disciplinary matter involving a former senior official. Phemelo speaks to Ekurhuleni MMC for Finance and ANC Regional Secretary, Jongizizwe Dlabathi.
