Dion Forster ‘n eenvoudige maar diepgaande vraag: “Het jy al ooit iemand ontmoet wat heel gewoon gelyk het, maar later jou lewe heeltemal verander het?” Hy verwys na Hebreërs 13: “Moenie nalaat om gasvryheid aan vreemdelinge te bewys nie, want deur dit te doen het sommige engele onwetend onthaal.” Die skrywer van Hebreërs sê nie “moenie vreemdelinge weier nie” – hy sê “moenie hulle nalaat nie”, want nalatigheid kom dikwels omdat ons afgelei, besig of moeg is. Prof. Dion haal John Wesley (stigter van die Metodistekerk) aan wat gesê het: “Een van die hoofreëls van godsdiens is om geen geleentheid te verloor om God te dien nie.” Die beste manier om die God wat ons nie gesien het nie te dien, is om Hom te dien in die teenwoordigheid van die mense wat ons wel sien – die kollega, die kassier, die bejaarde buurman, die vreemdeling, die nuweling. Hy sluit af met ‘n uitdaging: betaal aandag. Wie plaas God vandag op jou pad? Wie het bemoediging of ‘n klein daad van vriendelikheid nodig? Moenie die geleentheid mis om God in die middel van die vreemdeling te ontmoet nie.
