Remember When We Rushed Home for TV?

This month marks 40 years since M-Net first flickered onto South African television screens.

The pay-tv channel launched in October 1986 — bringing with it decoders, movies without ad breaks, something called “Open Time" and a group of continuity presenters who became almost as famous as the programmes they introduced.

It was also a very different era of television — before streaming, binge-watching and hundreds of channels, when South Africans actually rushed home to catch their favourite shows.
