Proteas coach Shukri Conrad has backed captain Wiaan Mulder’s decision to declare their first innings on 626/5 on day two of the second Test against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo.
Yesterday, South Africa wrapped up the match with an emphatic innings and 236-run victory to complete a 2-0 series whitewash in the City of Kings.
Mulder’s declaration meant giving up a once-in-a-lifetime chance to break Brian Lara’s 21-year-old world record of 400* in a Test innings.
Conrad defended Mulder’s decision, saying it epitomises the player’s character.
