The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in the Free State is holding a protest march against racism in Bloemfontein today.
The league’s provincial chairperson, Makalo Mohale says they are expecting thousands of young people from around the province to attend.
The march will start at Bloemfontein’s Central Business District, then move to the High Court before moving on to the Fidel Castro Building (provincial government building) and ending at the Standard Bank building. A memorandum demanding that Standard Bank fire economist, Chris Hart will be handed over at the end of the march.
Mohale says the march will not be violent and will be open to anyone who opposes racism.
Mohale says if their demands are not met, they will call for government and black businesses to close their Standard Bank accounts.
Hart will soon appear before the bank’s disciplinary committee, following a controversial twitter post suggesting that black people had a “sense of entitlement”.
