SA short story gets Student Academy Award nomination

A South African short story about the survival of two brothers after their eviction has landed film student Nathan Rice a nomination for the 2016 Student Academy Awards.

'Homeless' looks at life after the pair are forcefully removed from their shack and the subsequent journey to find their long lost mother's home in hopes of a brighter future.

Rice, who completed his three-year degree at film, television and performance school AFDA, says he was speechless when he found out about the nomination.

He plans to pursue a career as a writer and director in the local film industry which he says has a lot of potential.
