The Hawks have arrested a 33-year-old man who allegedly ran a scam claiming he could quash Oscar Pistorius' case.

The man was arrested in Pretoria today during a sting operation in which a deposit of R40 000 was paid.

Hawks spokesperson, Hangwani Mulaudzi, says the man approached Pistorius yesterday, pretending to be an official from the National Prosecuting Authority, and informed him he could make the case disappear. He says police were informed by a friend of Pistorius and a sting operation put in place.

Mulaudzi says the man was arrested next to the Pretoria High Court.

Pistorius's family spokesperson Anneliese Burgess said she had no knowledge of the incident and so couldn't comment on it.
