The Northern Cape, Free State and North West provinces did not reach their targets for the creation of job opportunities through the national Expanded Public Works Programmes during the 2015/16 financial year. The Department of Public Works told Parliament's portfolio committee on Public Works that provincial departments and municipalities reached 41% and 25% respectively of their set targets. The Eastern Cape is the only province that achieved its target while North West recorded the lowest figures. Challenges faced by the provinces are expected to be highlighted during today's visit to the Northern Cape by Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, several cabinet ministers and the provincial executive committee. Deputy Director General of the program in the national Department of Public Works, Stanley Henderson, says problems experienced by provincial departments and municipalities include a lack of capacity.
