"Spy tapes" judgment solely a judicial review: ANC

The ANC says the "spy tapes" judgment did not deal with the merits of any allegations against President Zuma, nor did it make any finding declaring guilt against him.

The party was commenting after Pretoria High Court judge Aubrey Ledwaba this morning found that the decision by former National Prosecuting Authority head Mokotedi Mpshe to drop 783 corruption charges against Zuma was irrational and should be reviewed. He said Zuma should face charges as implied in the original indictment.

ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa, says since the court dealt solely with a review of an administrative decision, Ledwaba's findings should not be used to infer culpability in any crime or offence by the President.

The Democratic Alliance, which brought the matter to court, and the Economic Freedom Fighters said the charges should be reinstated immediately.
