The total income generated by the food and beverage industry has increased by 0.9 percent in March 2016 compared with March 2015. A Stats SA survey found that there was positive annual growth rates of 2.8 percent for bar sales, and 1.2 percent of food sales. Keshnee Govender says a positive annual growth rate was also recorded for restaurants and coffee shops, takeaway and fast food outlets.

The data however showed negative growth in the catering sector, mainly due to the public holidays.
