Charges are piling up against a North West municipal manager after he refused to attend a meeting of the provincial legislature where he was meant to account for irregular spending of about R300 million.

Modisenyane Segapo, the accounting officer at Naledi Municipality, which includes Vryburg, refused to return to the Standing Committee of Public Accounts (Scopa) meeting to account for unauthorised, wasteful and irregular expenditure detailed in the Auditor General's report for 2014/2015.

Scopa chair, Mahlakeng Mahlakeng said the committee then instructed the municipal council to take action against Segapo and the legislature instituted a charge of misconduct against him.
