The struggling Universitas Academic Hospital in Bloemfontein will today launch an upgraded, state-of-the-art digital Gastroscopy Unit, which cost an estimated R7 million.
The world class unit, a first for the public sector in South Africa, will be launched in collaboration with the cash-strapped Free State Department of Health.
The unit is set to improve service delivery and training capabilities in gastroscopies, colonoscopies, and other intestinal procedures.
Free State Health Department spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, says the launch will take place at the hospital’s ground floor from 12pm.
Universitas’ spokesperson, Joanne Ranyane, could not be reached for comment.
Free State MEC for Health, Butana Komphela, said the launch of the unit will lift the struggling hospital to greater heights of service excellence.
