Tax return deadline

People who have not yet submitted their tax returns have until 16:00 today to do so. This year's tax season for non-provisional taxpayers comes to a close this afternoon. The SA Revenue Service (Sars) says by yesterday afternoon it had already received 5.3 million tax returns with more than half being done electronically via e-filing. Sars spokesperson Sandile Memela says 5.94 million returns were submitted last year, reflecting a growth of 11%.

Provisional taxpayers using e-filing have until the 31st of January to submit their returns.
