The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has embarked on a campaign to raise awareness about consumers' rights when it comes to the display of prices.
This, it says, it to prevent especially vulnerable consumers from suffering unfair treatment at the hands of retailers.
The Commission says consumers with low literacy levels, which make up a large portion of the population, can easily be duped by unscrupulous retailers, especially during the busy festive season shopping rush.
The NCC's head of advocacy and awareness, Phumeza Mlungu, says the campaign, which started this week, will also seek to encourage voluntary compliance amongst retailers with the Consumer Protection Act's pricing provisions.
