The case against a 25-year-old man who was arrested for allegedly impersonating North West Premier, Supra Mahumapelo, is expected to resume in the Mmabatho Magistrate’s Court today.
He was arrested on Christmas Eve in Kuruman in the Northern Cape for allegedly impersonating Mahumapelo in a bid to solicit money from high profile politicians. Mahumapelo’s office subsequently warned the public of the scam in a statement, after receiving several calls from high profile politicians, including a Western Cape-based member of Parliament and deputy minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Andries Nel.
Hawks spokesperson, Tlangelani Rikhotso, said earlier additional charges of conspiracy to murder and intimidation will be added to the initial fraud charge. She says he is due to apply for bail today.
