Dakar Rally Stage 9 report

Stage 9 of the Dakar Rally was supposed to see competitors cross borders for the final time in a 242km journey from Tupiza in Bolivia to Salta in Argentina. It was not to be however as the stage was cancelled. The big drama of the day though saw race leader Carlos Sainz docked 10 minutes for allegedly knocking over a quad bike in Stage 7. Toyota Gazoo Racing South Africa Team Principal Glyn Hall welcomed the decision.
Today’s Stage 10 will see the teams resume racing - with a tough 373km journey from Salta to Belen.
The penalty to Sainz means he now leads Nasser Al Attiyah by just over 56 minutes, while Giniel de Villiers is 5th overall.
