Bloemfontein property developers and contractors are being warned to watch out for scammers in the city.Mayor of the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, Olly Mlamleli, issued an alert this week warning the public of individuals pretending to be municipal officials, who visit sites or areas under construction, preying on developers. She says they inform those on the ground that their building plans have not been approved by the municipality. They proceed to insist that money must be paid over to them, or the ongoing building projects must be demolished. She mentions the bogus officials have made use of her and other senior municipal officials’ names to force people into paying them. Mlamleli urges all developers to have their documents with them, so that they aren’t easily intimidated.
