Dr Harlan Cloete from the University of the Free State's (UFS') Department of Public Administration and Management is of the view that the Auditor General's office must audit human resource practices in municipalities. This as AG Tsakani Maluleke revealed last week that
consultants made R1,26 billion in 2020/21 doing basic financial accounting tasks at municipalities. An indication that there is no skills development at most municipalities despite officials earning a lot of money.
